New MP given responsibility for private rented sector

The National Landlords Association (NLA) has welcomed the arrival
of Ian Austin as the new minister who holds responsibility for the
private rented sector.
Mr Austin is the replacement for Iain Wright, who has moved to
another government post.
NLA chairman David Salusbury commended Mr Wright's work in the
industry and said the association is looking forward to working
with the new minister.
He added: "The recently published government recommendations for
the sector are ambitious and to ensure that the voice of landlords
is heard throughout the consultation process, the NLA hopes to meet
Mr Austin as soon as possible."
Last month, both the Association of Residential Letting Agents and
the Communities and Local Government department announced proposals
to raise standards among letting companies and landlords.
One suggestion made by the governmental department was that a new
landlord register should be developed to monitor property
professionals across the UK.
