Imagine the scene, you’ve been on the road with your sheep trying to get them to market in London and you’re nearly there near the tollgate at Turnpike Lane. What you need is somewhere to take a break and rest your sheep, a green with a pub. Then you see it the welcome sight of Bounds Green with its common and herding track edged by wide green swards. Two acres of the common still exist near Warwick Road, as do some of the wide green verges on Bounds Green Road.
Talking of green, the area is lucky to have the wonderful, award winning Sunshine Garden Centre on its doorstep, complete with a charming little café. If it’s old fashioned charm you’re after take a look at the parade of shops on Myddleton Road. This Victorian treasure is going to look stunning as restoration work progresses and draws new businesses – and then there’s The Step. Locals love this café-bar-bistro with friendly staff, great food and regular live music and events – really the hub of this young, energetic and fun community.
