There have been a few cold and frosty nights so we know what the cold feels like right now. Is it reasonable to dream of an exotic style garden turning your patch into a real Urban Jungle?  Well, the answer is a surprising – yes!  Sounds impossible? –  check out The Exotic Garden in Norwich created by the late Will Giles. www.exoticgarden.comexotic-and-plantation-garden-norwich-5

For anyone without his dedication the trick is to mass together plants with bold leaf shapes,  strong silhouettes and vibrant colours to give the impression of impenetrable vegetation. Good old hardy favourites like the indestructible fatsia, look great mixed with bamboos, ferns, hakonechloa, huge euphorbia and rodgersia, with bright dahlia, canna and zantedeschia adding colourful notes. There are a huge number of easy plants available plus some, like bananas, which will survive if you give them a little help to wrap up in winter.
