When was the last time you climbed a tree? If you’re an average adult I’m guessing the answer is, ‘not since I was a child’. There are, of course, always the odd exceptions to the norm, such as my husband, who still thinks he’s young and agile and dashed up a tree in Shropshire with no problem at all only to slide down it scraping all the skin off the insides of his arm. However, if you fancy yourself as one of Robin Hood’s Merrie Men, this weekend is the ideal time to get a bit of very safe practice in. The Great Big Tree Climbing Company will be at a specially kitted out oak tree in Alexandra Park helping people of all ages, from 6 to100, get into the canopy, do some ‘branch walking’ and enjoy a wonderful view before returning safely to earth.
Tickets are available right up to one hour before the session through Eventbrite, with scheduled times throughout Saturday and Sunday, and cost £18.50 plus booking fee. All sessions are limited to 8 participants only and the website says that these will be re-scheduled if there is thunder or lightening, which is very reassuring. Anyone is welcome to come and watch others for free!
