The buzz word for home furnishing fabrics in the 1980s was Designers Guild. Tricia Guild started her phenomenal business in 1970 while looking for unusual textiles to decorate with. She changed the colours on a collection of traditional Indian hand blocked designs and a brand was born. Designers Guild was known for its bright and bold designs, often florals. Many of these were created by artists such as Kaffe Fassett, Lilian Delavoryas and Janice Tchalenko from whom she started to commission work in 1974. Here’s a real classic from Kaffe Fassett who later became a star of the knitting world.
