‘My favourite hangout is Pizzeria Pappagone on Stroud Green Road, N4 which I have been frequenting since 2001 – I had returned from a university year abroad in Italy and was yearning for some authentic Italian food and discovering Pappagone ‘s was a real treat. They don’t just serve pizza, as they have a wide selection of antipasti, pasta, main courses, salads and desserts, with all the staples you would expect from a real Italian restaurant. The ingredients are all freshly prepared on site and the number of Italians who choose to eat there is testament to the quality & authenticity of the gastronomic delights on offer.

To help wash down the meal, I usually go for the Sauvignon Blanc DOC Friuli-Venezia Giulia. This wine is from the region where I used to live which sits on the Adriatic coast, bordering the Austrian Alps in the north and Slovenia in the east, it’s very dry, quite fragrant & acidic and it goes down well and just goes to show that it’s not always the most expensive wine on the menu that’s the best.
