Ok the weather is not set to be brilliant over the Easter weekend but it’s not going to be too bad and if you have a garden and a spare moment it will be a great time to pop down to the award winning Sunshine Garden Centre. And if you’re not quite ready to get stuck in I still think it is a good moment to just browse and be inspired, if nothing else. They have fantastic staff members who are always happy to advise or help in any way they can, a great stock of healthy plants, car parking and a jolly café if you need cake. Photo Credit: Ham & High
Of course for those of you with long memories you will perhaps be reminded of embarrassing costumes and the first outdoor swim of the year in chilly waters when you get there. That’s because before 1990 this was still thought of as the Durnsford Road Lido. What is now the central glasshouse is situated over the original Olympic size pool and the two buildings on either side were the changing rooms. The huge diving board, scene of many acts of Derring-do, remained part of the garden centre for a few years until it had to be cleared. Here’s a film of it in 1939 when it ws known as the Wood Green Baths but rest assured – it’s the same place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSFojnpHEmw
