I have to stay my hand when I pass a beautiful hand-crafted basket else I would have a house stuffed full of them. This ancient craft has been used to make all sorts of useful things and continues to inspire designers today. Take a fresh look at basket-weave:
Handmade baskets piled high in a local market – so tempting.
I rather like this chunky ‘wall hanging’ with its mid century look.
I also like this pretty basket-weave glass splash back – it could be a bit difficult to clean I suppose.
No such problem with these 1958 Lloyd Loom ‘Lusty’ chairs. I don’t think I’d be up for spending hours on something like this, pretty though it is
or this
but I love these and would have them in my garden any day.
Some people just like to go the whole hog when they’re into something, so for those of you who are a bit extreme here’s the big deal – a basket inspired building.
This is the Longaberger Basket Building 1997 – an American manufacturer of maple wood baskets and is based on their best seller – the ‘Medium Market Basket’. The idea was to have all their offices styled after one of their products but no more were built after this one. Is anyone surprised I wonder?
