Are you dreaming of a white Christmas? The chances are pretty slim in London but you never know. Meanwhile, we can take a look at what people who do have plenty of snow get up to with it!

snow

During the Vasaloppet China Ski Festival, snow artists make amazing sculptures of well known European buildings – can you guess which country this comes from?  Yes, it’s a Russian-style Orthodox Church. You get a good sense of the scale from the two figures on the left.

Simon Beck is reputedly the world’s most famous snow artist. He looks for level ground with an even coating of snow – preferable around nine inches.

Some have a 3D effect like the gorgeous snowflake above,

and some are a delicate tracery of barely-there lines.
circles
I love this work by Sonja Hinrichsen whose snow drawings always involve her walking in circles wearing snow shoes.

Seymon Bukharin uses a broom to create his snow paintings – a kind of negative approach. I am guessing he needs to work with a thin layer of snow in an urban environment where he is sure of a even surface below – this looks like a sports field.
man
There will always be someone making something bigger and better than you could ever achieve – imagine having a neighbour who created this next door.
snowman
Nothing will ever give more joy than the ordinary, usually rather desultory garden snowman that you make with friends and family.
