WHAT’S THE STORY? You will have spotted our brilliant Summer Offer poster around the place but did you know we are re-cycling an original Prickett and Ellis publicity poster dating from 1901?
The company commissioned the poster from one of the most interesting illustrators of the day, Dudley Hardy, famous for his scenes of the Sudanese War which he sold to various periodicals. The poster was principally designed for display in Highgate Railway Station to whet the appetite of commuters and day trippers hopefully tempting them into their Prickett and Ellis office in Highgate.
The romantic scene is set on Hampstead Heath looking towards Kenwood House, where, as it happens, in the 18th century Mr John Prickett made a map of the grounds for the Earl of Mansfield. This historic map is now lodged in the archives of the Earls of Mansfield at Scone Palace.
