East Finchley seems stuffed full of BBC Masterchef winners and, as of last night, we can add another winner to the list – Charlotte Newland was crowned victor of popular BBC series, The Great British Sewing Bee 2016.
Charlotte describes herself as ‘Scientist, mum, wife, dressmaker, quilter, knitter. Not necessarily in that order.’ Take a look at her website if you like sewing with a slice of humour: http://www.charlottenewland.com
Before Sewing Bee Charlotte worked as the editor of a medical journal and she fitted her passion for sewing into the rest of her life. I wonder if this win will turn that around? The 43-year-old mother of three says her children have been egging her on to apply to be a contestant on the show. This year she caved in and was surprised to have been chosen out of the thousands who apply. Here she is with her fellow contestants, not looking the most confident of the group, hidden away at the back.
However, never underestimate a woman who has a sewing needle and thread tattoo – that’s real commitment and Charlotte saw off all the talented competition to claim the
top prize. We wish her every success in the future and hopefully she will be sharing her talent with us locals, giving tutorials and maybe even whipping up a frock or two for someone’s special day. Just like to mention my daughter’s getting married in the autumn and can’t find the dress of her dreams – can you help, Charlotte?
